SHARING THE AFRICAN HERITAGE WITH
YOU
The Choma Museum
and Crafts Centre Trust Ltd (CMCC) is a development
project established in 1987. We believe that economic and cultural development must
go hand in hand. The CMCC supports the production, marketing and trade in
the arts and crafts of the Southern Province of Zambia. Most artisans are
peasant or subsistence farmers. Some live in Choma townships and a
few are full time professionals. The crafts they make spring from the regional cultural
heritage.
We help artists and artisans to make a
living by marketing facilitation, skill improvement and support for their organisations. In linking their
world to yours, we are confident that you will appreciate the creativity of its
artisans.
The
CMCC is
a major crafts business in Zambia and has been exporting
since 1993. Our product range covers both traditional
and innovative crafts: from basketry, pottery, carved wood, smithed crafts to batik cloth and textiles.
We are Zambia's largest exporter of traditional baskets with
exports to the US, RSA and several EU contries.
General information about the CMCC by e-mail: cmcc@coppernet.zm
. Information about products, prices and
services are directly accessed at
cmarket@coppernet.zm . And much of what you want
to know is on these pages.
We are interested in lasting co-operation
with organisations, institutions and businesses for better production and
marketing of Zambian arts and crafts.

CULTURE IS A
WAY TO MAKE A LIVING
We are
associated to over 600 mostly female artisans and about 25 artists.
We believe
that:
-
crafts should be
both practical and beautiful
-
made and
traded fairly
-
local human, material and cultural resources mostly
be used in crafts making
Being a non-profit organisation we seek to ensure
fair prices for our producers. We also seek to ensure that you buy a good
product. Productive trade is a way out of
poverty.
This site is designed by the CMCC marketing and
design unit using CatGen software.
