Welcome to Bamenda
Handicraft Cooperative Society
Bamenda
handicraft cooperative society limited was established in September 1965 after
people had realised that local skills were rapidly disappearing and felt the
right traditional culture of the people of the "grassland" the present North
West Province was worth maintaining. The North West Province is often and with
reason - described as the Province that embodies the greatest - variety of
Cameroon culture.
The
organisation registered as a cooperative on the 14th of May 1965. It
is an independent organisation registered with the Department of cooperation and
mutuality under the junction of the Ministry of agriculture. There is also the
close cooperation with the Provincial service of information and culture and
also Ministry of Trade and Industry.
Established in 1964 by American Peace Corps volunteers to help poor
craftsmen and women sell their products. The aim of the organisation is to find
appropriate markets and to help craft producers get access to these, so that
they can earn a living from the sale of their products.
Bamenda Handicraft Cooperative Society
is a member of International Federation of
Alternative Trade(IFAT) and Trading Partner of PEOPlink
